The Ministers of the Church

All baptized Christians are ministers of the church. Each minister of the church is called to use his or her own distinctive gifts to share in the work of ministry.

The people of St. Michael’s are the heart of the community. Our community has a lean paid staff, but is filled with people who serve both within and beyond our walls. You can read more about the active clergy and staff below. We are also blessed by the ministry of several retired clergy members in our midst.

The Vestry

The vestry is an elected group of lay leaders who help conduct the church’s business, oversee the finances, and attend to the spiritual health of the congregation.

  • The Rev. Elizabeth Henry-McKeever

    RECTOR

Elizabeth is the primary priest for our community, and is responsible for overseeing worship and ministry initiatives at Saint Michael’s. She loves helping people pay attention to how God is at work in their lives. Her favorite part of ministry is presiding at the altar each week to nourish Christ’s people from the riches of his grace.

Elizabeth grew up in Little Rock and is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina and Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. She has served at St. Michael’s since 2019. Prior to her ordination, Elizabeth was a fundraiser with Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She lives in midtown with her wife Alison, their two young children, and a rescue dog. Elizabeth’s favorite ways to unwind are reading, cooking, being in the woods, and studying martial arts.

  • The Rev. Sam Loundenslager

    DEACON

Sam Loudenslager is our community’s active deacon, and serves to interpret the world to the church and the church to the world. He also keeps and updates our community’s prayer lists. Sam began his time at St. Michael's on March 5, 2003 (Ash Wednesday). Sam’s favorite part of ministry is preaching and interacting with those in our community.

Sam was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Memphis, and has a BA in History and Economics and an MS in Economics. Retired now, Sam spent his career working in or with the utility industries. He is a third order Franciscan, and has certificates in spiritual direction and Franciscan studies. At home, he serves as cook, cleaner, gardener, and care-giver. Sam is renewed by silence, reading and study. Also American football.

  • Brian Harmon

Brian Harmon keeps our ministry humming along smoothly. He compiles bulletins, maintains membership records and calendars, welcomes vendors and visitors, and sings in the choir. As a PK (preacher's kid), Brian lived in several different states growing up. He went to high school in Alexandria, VA, and college at Harding University in Searcy, where he studied biblical languages and computer science. He worked for 22 years at ALLTEL/FIS, starting as a programmer and ending as a solution architect.

Brian been part of St. Michael’s since 2003ish, and has lived in Hillcrest almost as long. • Paul Brown

    BOOKEEPER

Paul Brown has been our bookkeeper since 2011. He’s the person to contact about money coming in or out from St. Michael’s. He enjoys using his time and talents to help the church make sure the bills get paid timely and accurately.

Paul grew up in Little Rock, and has been a member of St. MIchael’s twice: from 1972 to 1982 then 2010 to present. He went to college in Memphis and has a degree in Computer Engineering. Before retiring, he worked for Hewlett-Packard where he managed the computing infrastructure support for several major customers. Paul lives in West Little Rock with his wife Susan. They have a son who lives in Fayetteville, AR, and a cat who adopted us (the best kind). Paul recharges by reading, going for drives, flying airplanes, being with friends.

  • Beth Retzloff

    FOLK MUSIC DIRECTOR

Rand & Beth Retzloff are both longtime Little Rock residents and came to St. Mike's in the late 80's. Beth is a lover of all kinds of music and was in the Asbury Methodist youth choirs.

She retired after almost 30 years working for the state supporting its voice and data networks. She began devoting more time to St. Mike's music ministry and our landscape business. Music is what renews & heals Beth. She also has a small, word-of-mouth food business to provide homemade goodies. Beth loves our Liturgy and has had roles to help include those interested in duties in the Liturgy (aka 'The Schedule') as well as working with the choirs. She is thankful for the community of St. Michael's that allows those with imperfect gifts (like hers) to offer them and be accepted.
