Your questions are welcomed and embraced here.

  • Do you have women pastors?

We do. Jesus trusted women to be the first preachers of the good news of his resurrection, so we follow his lead and gladly welcome women into all leadership roles, ordained and lay. In fact, one of the first female priests ordained in The Episcopal Church served at Saint Michael’s from 1978-1994.

  • Are LGBTQIA+ people really allowed?

Absolutely. All people are beloved by God and created in God’s image. There is no shame or conditional love offered here. If you want to know how we square our position of LGBTQIA+ inclusion with our faith and teachings, we would be happy to share some resources.

  • I don't really know what I believe anymore.

That’s fine. You’ll be surrounded by like-minded people. Having questions or being uncertain is part of what it means to think deeply about the spiritual life. Whether you are deconstructing, reconstructing, a lifelong Episcopalian, or a lifelong skeptic, you are invited to take root and grow here.

  • Do you believe in the Bible?

We do. We read several scripture passages in every worship service. The Book of Common Prayer, which shapes our liturgy, is made up of 70% scripture. We believe God inspired the human authors of scripture, and God still speaks to us daily through the Bible. We rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of the Church to interpret scripture.

  • What if my kid is distruptive?

They’ll be in good company! God made children wiggly and loud, and we celebrate their gift of exuberance. Church is one of only places in our society where people of all ages hang out together, and our church loves when children and adults grow in their faith side by side.

We offer coloring sheets and a children’s area near the front (but mostly out of view of the congregation). During the school year, we offer a montessori-style classes for children before worship. You can read more about kids here.

  • What if I get confused in the service?

Jesus doesn’t care, and neither do we. If you’re coming for the first time, you may want to arrive a few minutes early so we can introduce you to a pew buddy or guide.

We are a laid-back bunch with a generous attitude toward others. No one will look at you funny or judge you if you make a mistake or don’t know what’s going on.

  • Do I have to believe every part of the service to be part of this church?

You do not. We hope this can be a community where you can grow in and into your faith. God is not static, and our faith in God is not, either.

  • How do I join the church?

Please come worship with us! We have a loose definition of membership, but we’ll help you find what you need.

  • What kind of ministries do you offer?

We intentionally limit our internally-focused activities and ministries, so that we can support each other’s work out in the world. Learn more about our approach to ministry.
